F1 team principal Frederic Vasseur addressed Max Verstappen's bold comments about winning the championship with McLaren and Ferrari.
Following the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen secured his fourth Championship title, the Dutchman suggested he would have won even with McLaren or Ferrari.
What's more, Verstappen said he would have won the drivers' title even sooner if he was part of any of those two F1 teams.
The team principal of Ferrari, Fred Vasseur, recently responded to the bold comment made by the four-time world champion. As reported by PlanetF1, he said:
"It makes no sense to think or say that in another team, Verstappen would have won the same since it is not possible to separate the performance of a driver from that of his car."
"There are too many elements involved. It makes no sense to say that Verstappen would have won in a McLaren as well, since the quality level of Woking's team also depends on feedback and work done with its current drivers."
Where Ferrari and McLaren are is partly due to feedback from their drivers. Verstappen could perhaps hop into their car and try to win races, but the development would have been different with his feedback. Vasseur continued:
"In 2022 and 2023 the Red Bull was much better. When you have six-tenths of a head, you can make mistakes, and nobody notices it, and you are beatified."
"This year, however, it was enough a small mistake to make the team of Milton Keynes down to sixth place."
While he dismissed Verstappen's statements, it doesn't mean that Vasseur doesn't hold the Red Bull Racing F1 driver in high esteem.
In fact, all team principals, including Vasseur, unanimously voted Max Verstappen the best driver on the grid after the 2024 season in the poll for Formula 1.
