Max Verstappen addressed questions about the converging F1 field during last week's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In the first half of the 2024 season (the first 12 races), we have seen six different Grand Prix winners from four different F1 teams. In comparison, there have been only three Grand Prix winners from two teams in 2023.
The teams at the top of the field are much closer together than they have been for a long time, which makes for very entertaining races for F1 fans.
If there is one person who might not be enjoying this period as much, it's Max Verstappen, whose dominance is endangered by the progress of Red Bull's rivals. However, when asked whether he is enjoying this period in Formula One, the triple World Champion said, as quoted by F1:
"For sure. We had some great years. Of course, this year also started off really competitively, and now everyone's catching up a bit. Every race is a proper battle as well, so it's great."
In 2023, there were worries about F1 becoming more boring with Red Bull's and Verstappen's clear dominance. At the end of the day, it seemed people cared about who won the race and didn't like it when it was always the same driver.
"I think that [theme] will continue also for the rest of the season, so it's really unknown what is going to happen, and that's great for the sport."
In the past, the 26-year-old Red Bull Racing driver stated that he enjoyed dominant victories more than the ones he had to fight so hard for. However, his opinion now seemingly shifted, as he added:
"I mean, in general, it's just great to have so many fantastic drivers in F1 and making it difficult to win."
"I think everyone was waiting for that as well, and that's definitely what F1 fans want. To have this is great between so many different teams as well. It's going to be a great rest of the year."
