Max Verstappen will be one of the favourites to win the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, but he's not worried about his rivals.
With the new F1 season approaching, talks about how fast the cars of teams will be have already started. That is particularly true after the pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Those suggested that some teams may be doing better than others, and Verstappen's Red Bull is expectedly among the winners. Therefore, the Dutchman is predicted to have similar success in 2024 as he did in 2023, but he's not focused on that.
After his team principal, Christian Horner was cleared of all allegations, the team can now focus on the task at hand, and for Verstappen, the approach is quite simple when it comes to his competitors.
According to the three-time World Champion, only time will tell whether his opponents are fast enough, and even if they are, he reminds that the Bahrain International Circuit is just one of many tracks, suggesting that the results in Bahrain may not have to be indicative for the remainder of the season.
"Time will tell if the others are fast or not or if we are fast enough. Bahrain is one particular track and there are lots of different tracks on the calendar where we have to perform."
Eventually, the 26-year-old prefers just to come to his job, deliver the drive that's expected for him, and compare the results then.
"In general, it's better not to think about it. Wake up, get to the track, see the result - if it's good or bad, it's not going to change anything. That's how I approach it."
It shows how much Verstappen grew as the driver over years, and his approach certainly suggests that he's in a very good headspace, not working about his rivals, but rather about his own performance.
On March 2nd, he'll get to show how he prepared for the new season, as the Bahrain Grand Prix starts untraditionally on Saturday.
