The F1 pre-season testing is officially over, and the last day brought some interesting results and observations.
The third day of the pre-season testing didn't start ideally. Similarly to Day 2, a
red flag was triggered after
Red Bull's
Sergio Perez drove over a drain cover. As a result, further changes were made to the program.
On Day 2, the first of the two sessions was cut short, while the second one was prolonged. This time around, the sessions were merged, and there was only one long eight-hour session, during which drivers swapped on the track, except for
Williams, as
Logan Sargeant was the only driver, who didn't get to drive on Friday.
After
Ferrari's
Carlos Sainz showed the team's speed on Day,
Charles Leclerc continued in a similar style on Day 3, competing the lap in a fastest time (1:30.322), which wasn't faster than the Spaniard's on Day 2.
Still, no one managed to beat the Monegasque driver, with
Mercedes'
George Russell getting the closest, only 0.046 seconds behind Leclerc. Surprisingly,
Zhou Guanyu put his Stake /
Sauber into the third place.
Some drivers ran race simulations, and we didn't get a lot of information from RB's
Daniel Ricciardo, who ended the last from the drivers who drove on Friday, completing a lap 6.693 seconds slower than Leclerc on the hardest compound of tires.
Max Verstappen in Red Bull, who was the fastest man on Day 1, was the only driver on C3 compound in the Top 6, as all other drivers had a softer C4 compound of tires during their fastest runs.
His teammate was tenth, while RB's Yuki Tsunonda managed to place fifth, only a little bit ahead of Williams'
Alex Albon and
McLaren's
Oscar Piastri.
The last day surely brought a lot of exciting action, and an insight into how the 2024 F1 season may look like, as the first race of the season is now only eight days away, and it will be held on the same
Bahrain International Circuit.
