Former F1 team owner asserted Max Verstappen must be the most challenging teammate in the sport right now.

Red Bull is currently the most lucrative team in F1. However, the second place alongside Max Verstappen is probably one of the least lucrative spots at the moment.

The Dutchman showed incredible speed and perfect consistency in 2023 when he outperformed his teammate Sergio Perez in 20 out of 22 Grand Prix races of the season.

And the season did not start so bad for the Mexican driver. After the first four races, the score between the two Red Bull teammates was 2:2. Eddie Jordan told on the Formula For Success podcast:

"Checo started the [2023] season so well, those couple of wins early on. And he probably was on a bit of a hype mentally."

However, everything changed after those first four races. It seemed either as if the Dutchman significantly improved or as if Checo suddenly lost all his pace.

"He probably felt so strong, and then he suddenly realized that when Max kicked into gear, so to speak, and he found his real mojo, not that he ever really ever lost it throughout the season."

The team principal of the team from Milton Keynes, Christian Horner, stated in 2023 that driving alongside the triple World Champion is the toughest job in the pit lane. Interestingly, Jordan said something very similar:

"He must be probably the most difficult team-mate that you could ever hope or wish to have. There’s been a lot of talk about Checo possibly being replaced. I personally don’t see that."

While there has been a lot of talk about Perez being replaced, it is now almost certain he will start the 2024 season for Red Bull. On the other hand, he will need to show improvement to retain his seat. The former F1 team owner added:

"He has a contract and I have a good idea the people in Red Bull are pretty honourable people through and through."
