Toto Wolff expressed his interest in Max Verstappen following the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix race when he said he'd "love to have" the 26-year-old.
It already seemed like the case surrounding Red Bull, Christian Horner, and Verstappen had been closed a couple of times, but news, rumors, and speculations keep appearing.
One of the latest news stories was that Helmut Marko was at risk of being suspended by Red Bull. Apparently, the 80-year-old was suspected of leaking information about Horner's case to the media.
Max Verstappen suggested he would also leave if the Austrian had to. Then, the man who is looking to profit from the situation, Toto Wolff, stated he would be interested in offering Marko a role in Mercedes.
The Mercedes team principal is currently searching for someone who could replace Lewis Hamilton after the end of the season 2024. Apparently, it isn't impossible for the Dutchman to be the one despite his long-term contract with Red Bull.
Speaking to the media present at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit after the most recent race, the Austrian said: "I'd love to have him [Verstappen]."
Everyone in the paddock is aware of Verstpapen's qualities by now. But Wolff also knows that the triple World Champion has little reason to join Mercedes if they don't have a competitive car.
"But first we need to sort out our car, I think we owe it to our drivers, George and Lewis, to improve the car and give them equipment that is good before dreaming about the future."
Verstappen got himself into a fortunate position where he could basically choose where he wanted to go because, according to Wolff's words, everyone would love to have him. He said:
"I think this is a decision that Max needs to take. There is no team up and down the grid who wouldn't do handstands to have him in their car."
