In his most recent interview, Alex Albon asserted it's a shame what people say about Max Verstappen and Red Bull amid their recent success.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull have won 19 out of the last 20 Formula One Grand Prix races. As of now, Red Bull is the fastest car, and the Dutchman can deliver incredible results with it.
Many people cheered for the 26-year-old when he ended Lewis Hamilton's and Mercedes's dominance in 2021. However, they grew bored very quickly of the new dominance that Verstappen and Red Bull brought with them.
Many argue that the sport becomes less attractive when there is no fight for first place in Grand Prix races or the championship. However, Alex Albon doesn't agree and thinks it's a shame that people say such things. He said on Beyond The Grid podcast:
"In some ways it’s a shame to see comments about Max and it being a boring season, because it’s totally not, at least from my perspective."
Many drivers and team principals argue that the sport has become much more competitive despite the fact that there is no fight for first place.
The four chasing teams behind Red Bull are equally matched, and the five teams behind them also enjoy very close battles, as they showed during the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Albon added:
"You take him out of the equation, you have one of the best grids, the tightest grids ever in Formula 1. Even if you include Max, it's still the tightest field in Formula 1."
In the 2021 season, some drivers were lapped twice or maybe even thrice in a single race. That isn't the case anymore in 2024.
Do you agree with Albon and enjoy F1 even when there is always one clear favorite for the first place, or would you prefer that some team steps up and challenges Red Bull for the Championship?
