We know what Max Verstappen is like inside the F1 car. But Christian Horner described how he views the Dutchman outside of F1.
The triple World Champion Max Verstappen is one of the most ruthless drivers when it comes to on-track battles. But is he the same in normal life?
Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner recently detailed his view of the 26-year-olds character as he spoke to Secrets of Success podcast:
"Max, as a person, is just a really nice 26-year-old young man. Who is passionate about his racing, and uncomfortable with the level of fame or notoriety that he has now."
Many mechanics describe Verstappen as quite funny and relaxed once he is outside of an F1 car, and during press conferences, he also shows his straightforwardness.
"He just wants to do his job and race a car hard, he is very, very straightforward, and very honest. He loves spending time on his PlayStation if he’s not in a race car."
It is obvious the Dutchman lives for racing. In this way, he is kind of similar to Fernando Alonso, who also can't seem to know how to live without it.
As soon as the winter break began, the majority of F1 drivers went back to their hobbies outside of F1, but the two World Champions went straight to racing, just different cars.
Verstappen does not seem to have many hobbies outside of racing. When he's not in F1, he is already working on his next big project - his own GT3 team.
So that is the Dutchman, quite funny, gentle, always straightforward guy who lives for and is completely devoted to racing. His team principal added:
"So, outside of the car, he is quite a gentle character. Inside the car, he’s ruthless. I’ve never met a driver that is as driven as Max – from the moment that he steps into the car, you know that you’re gonna get 110 percent. He will expect 110 percent back – from the moment that that car leaves the garage."
