F1's interviewer, writer, and broadcaster Lawrence Barretto hinted that his sources confirmed
Daniel Ricciardo still seems to be the first in line to replace
Sergio Perez in
Red Bull.
Right after the final round (number 14) in Belgium at the start of the summer break, the Red Bull Racing F1 team
announced they decided to continue with Sergio Perez even after the break.
The Mexican driver struggled since round number 7 at Imola and hasn't managed to recover properly since then. The team from Milton Keynes apparently still trusts in his skills, which they showed by giving him what might be his last chance.
In his article for F1's official website, Lawrence Barretto wrote that the Mexican driver remains "Plan A" for the Austrian team.
"Should Red Bull decide that after giving Perez more support and several races to prove his worth, the Mexican still isn't showing enough – it's most likely they will promote either Ricciardo or Lawson into that seat."
"It should be said Red Bull's Plan A is to keep Perez, who finished second last year and helped them win the constructors' championship."
If the 34-year-old doesn't show an improvement and doesn't start delivering better results, Barretto's sources suggest Daniel Ricciardo is very much the first driver in line to replace him.
However, even the Honey Badger isn't completely safe. He needs to show more consistency in his performance to secure a seat for 2025, which he doesn't have yet.
"But it is sensible to have a Plan B as a back-up. Sources say as it stands, Ricciardo would likely get the nod, with Lawson moving into the now-spare RB seat alongside Tsunoda."
"The duo would then have the remainder of the season to prove their talent, with Red Bull having the option to stick with that arrangement for 2025, swap Ricciardo and Lawson around or part ways with Ricciardo or Lawson and bringing another junior into the fold at RB."
