Red Bull has officially confirmed that Sergio Perez will remain with them after the summer break despite all the speculations about his uncertain position within the team.
It seems strange to be talking about this, as Sergio Perez has already signed a contract for the 2025 season and beyond.
However, his insufficient performance in the last eight races led many to speculate whether Red Bull should reconsider its decision and replace the Mexican driver.
Since the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (eight races ago), the Mexican driver has only earned 28 points. Compare that to Max Verstappen, who amassed 141, and it becomes clear that Checo has not been delivering what Red Bull needs from him.
The team from Milton Keynes is still leading the Constructors' Championship, but their lead is decreasing with every race, and McLaren is now only 42 points away.
As Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner said, the Austrian team desperately needs both of its drivers to start scoring big to protect its lead in the Championship battle.
Can it be done with Perez? That was the question that many have been asking, and the team from Milton Keynes met on Monday (29th of July) to discuss the future of the Mexican driver.
It didn't even take long before they reached a conclusion. As reported by De Telegraaf, Christian Horner announced to the factory on Monday evening that Red Bull will stick with Perez even after the summer break.
"Checo remains a Red Bull Racing driver, despite all the speculation of late. We look forward to seeing him perform at circuits where he has previously performed well, after the summer break."
Crucially, it still wasn't clearly stated that Perez would remain with Red Bull until the end of the season, but the team still trusts him and wants to give him more chances to show that he has what it takes.
