Red Bull Racing broke yet another record of another successful F1 constructor, Mercedes, after their 20th race win of the 2023 season at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Despite not having very long history, Red Bull and Mercedes are two of the most successful teams in the sport's history. They hold the first and second place in percentage of race wins out of the teams that have participated in at least 30 races.
Only Brawn is more successful than Mercedes, as the team managed to win eight out of 17 races (47.1%) during the 2009 season, which was their only season in the Formula One.
As of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Mercedes has 125 victories in 291 races (43%), while Red Bull has 111 wins in 367 races (30.2%). These incredibly impressive numbers are result of the dominance that both teams managed to achieve.
One of those most dominant seasons was the 2016 season, in which Mercedes simply seemed to be far ahead of anyone else. The German team, which operates from the United Kingdom, has won 19 out of 21 races, with the Drivers' Champion Nico Rosberg recording 9 wins, while his main rival and teammate, Lewis Hamilton won ten races.
Since then, no one has come close to that achievement, until 2022, when Red Bull with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won 17 out of 22 races, but that feat was two race wins away from breaking the total race wins record, as well as the team's percentage, which was 90.5%.
But in 2023, Red Bull managed to improve and win 20 out of 21 races currently held, with one more race left to improve their historic achievement even more.
With Verstappen winning the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the team from Milton Keynes has secured their 20th win of the season, which bested Mercedes' 19 wins, and also put them above the German team in percentage of races won with 90.9%.
However, Mercedes' percentage of race wins is now only third on the all-time list, as there was one team that was more successful, but at a time when there were only 16 races held during a season.
In 1988, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in McLaren were simply unstoppable, winning 15 out of 16 races in the season, which amounts to 93.8% of race wins in the season.
Red Bull can now surpass that mark, with the possible 21st win of 22 races giving them a 95.5% win rate. However, they will only join the list of teams that have won all but one race in the season, which includes the likes of McLaren, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo.
