Oscar Piastri explained his approach to battles with other F1 drivers on track as he said it it is important to show people you are not a "pushover."

Oscar Piastri just finished his first season in Formula One. During this season, he had a few collisions with other drivers, but none have been caused by him.

The Australian driver revealed his approach to racing others has been to race them how he would want them to race him. He told motorsport.com:

"Not so much. Of course, there's an element of respect and I guess racing people how you want to be raced in some ways. I guess I always try and race people hard, but fair."

While trying to be fair to other drivers, the 22-year-old also mentioned he need to show he cannot be easily dominated. He needs to establish himself as an assertive driver who won't yield easily.

"At the beginning of the season or beginning of your career, it's always important to show it to people that you're not a pushover because it's not a nice thing to have."

Piastri has had a few incidents with drivers in 2023 by refusing to lift off when he was entitled to more space. But he believes he wasn't overly harsh or aggressive.

"I don't think I'm overly harsh or aggressive or anything like that. In my junior career, a big element of my championships was from staying out of trouble and being consistent. I think there's definitely a good saying in that it's sometimes more important to finish the race and be wrong in a situation than be right about something and be out of the race."

Max Verstappen recently included Piastri in his two-driver lineup after he was asked which drivers he would pick if he were a team principal. Piastri definitely gained the respect of F1 drivers in 2023. Do you think he can win a Grand Prix race in 2024?
