Helmut Marko asserted in one of his most recent interviews that, under one condition, it is quite possible we might see Perez in Red Bull even in 2025.
Sergio Perez has a lot to fight for in 2024. The Mexican driver's contract with Red Bull expires at the end of the season, and his future is at stake.
The 34-year-old has been lucky enough to find himself a seat in the best team on the grid, so if Red Bull doesn't prolong his contract, going anywhere else would be a downgrade for him.
Most media and F1 experts have already assumed the second seat in Red Bull will be up for grabs after the end of the 2024 season, and quite a few drivers would like to replace Checo.
Some of the most often mentioned names have been Daniel Ricciardo or Alex Albon. However, Helmut Marko recently suggested that Perez might have a chance to retain his seat for one more season.
When asked about the driver duo for the 2025 season in an interview with sport.de, the 80-year-old said that it was "quite possible" that if the Mexican driver has a good season, he could join Verstappen on the grid also in 2025.
The team principal of Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner, who is currently under investigation, mentioned something similar a while ago.
The 50-year-old said that Perez's future in the team from Milton Keynes depends on the direct performance comparison to his teammate - Max Verstappen.
The Mexican driver lost the head-to-head battle with the triple-world Champion during all three seasons they spent together in Red Bull since 2021.
However, Checo stated his main goal is to challenge Verstappen for the title in 2024 nevertheless. According to Horner, both drivers have the same opportunity afforded to them.
Consequently, if Perez was fast enough, he could even win the title this season. Do you think he has what it takes to beat the reigning World Champion?
