Mick Schumacher revealed he has been in short contact with Toto Wolff since Lewis Hamilton announced his departure from the team.
With every year out of the F1 car, the likelihood of seeing Mick Schumacher back in Formula decreases significantly. However, a recent opportunity might open magical doors for the German driver.
Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes for Ferrari means Toto Wolff will have one free seat in his team. Could Schumacher handle the big role of replacing the seven-time World Champion? According to
es.motorsport.com, he said:
"Of course it is a position that involves a lot of pressure, but I feel that I can handle it. However, that decision does not depend on me."
The seat in
Mercedes is very lucrative, and quite a few drivers on the grid will fancy their chances. Is the 25-year-old the one amongst all the drivers that deserves the seat?
"I have an opportunity, I just don't know how big it is yet, I hope to be able to recommend myself, I think few people know how good I am."
How possible is it we could see Schumacher return to F1 and go straight to Mercedes? We have seen a few comebacks in recent years.
Nico Hulkenberg,
Kevin Magnussen, and
Alex Albon are all great examples.
However, neither of them went straight to the top team. On the other hand, Schumacher revealed he has already been in "brief" contact with the team principal of Mercedes, which suggests he is in consideration.
He also asserted he would talk more to Wolff in the upcoming few days when he said: "Without a doubt, we will be able to talk more in the coming days."
With so many driver contracts expiring at the end of 2024, Schumacher might have an opportunity even in a different team like
Alpine or
Williams. Where do you see the 24-year-old driver in 2025?
