Red Bull's Sergio Perez asserted he expects to be at his best in 2024 following an unsuccessful 2023 season.
During the most recent season, Sergio Perez achieved his best career result in the Drivers' Championship. However, the 2023 season overall was far from his best.
The Mexican driver did finish second, but it was with two times fewer points compared to his teammate Max Verstappen. The comparison to the teammate is the most accurate and important for every single driver, and Perez lost out to Verstappen in all areas.
The 34-year-old struggled with consistency and made many mistakes, but going into the 2024 season, he suggests he learned a lot from all his errors. He told the media:
"With the learning of last year, it's very important that we learn what went wrong, learn from our mistakes."
Checo has been with Red Bull ever since the beginning of the 2021 season. It has been three years, and throughout this period, his end-of-the-year results have only improved.
The Mexican driver scored fourth place in 2021 and third place in 2022, and during the most recent season, he finished second. Could he continue this trend in 2024?
While it will certainly be very challenging to keep pace with his Dutch teammate, Perez asserted he will be at his best this year.
"I think we understood a lot of things. It's my fourth year with Red Bull, and I do expect to be at my best for this year."
In terms of what exact learnings he will be bringing into the season that kicks off with the first race in Bahrain in less than two weeks, Perez added:
"[We worked] on understanding the difficult races, why they were so difficult, the directions we were taking with the car, how we were overcompensating things and not necessarily making the car better. I think all of that we managed to learn."
