Former F1 driver Christian Klien praised the 42-year-old
Fernando Alonso in one of his most recent interviews.
Fernando Alonso has been driving at an incredible level since joining
Aston Martin in 2022. The team is clearly satisfied with the Spanish Matador
as they prolonged his contract ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix.
Age doesn't seem to be a problem for the Aston Martin driver, who should continue racing in F1 at least until the end of the 2025 season.
Even though Aston Martin currently has the fifth-fastest car on the grid, Alonso keeps putting in incredible performances. During the most recent race, he
qualified in P3 and finished in P7 (great results for Aston) despite inferior strategy. Christian Klien told Servus TV:
"I think he's currently at such an insane level that people just want him. He leads the team so to speak, motivates the team with his way of working and the results that keep coming in and I think for Aston Martin he's perfect.
"Now that the drivers are confirmed they can concentrate on the next two seasons. They can concentrate on the project for years [to come] and advance the team further."
Lawrence Stroll (Aston Martin's team owner) keeps taking the right steps to bring the British outfit closer to fighting for podiums, race wins, and, ultimately, championships.
That is also probably a big part of the reason why Alonso chose to stay with the team when he could possibly find himself a set in Mercedes or Red Bull. Klien added:
"Lawrence Stroll has very big and ambitious plans, next year is a little bit early but in 2026 there are big rule changes, the cards will be dealt out again."
"Then they have Honda as a partner who are definitely currently the best engine there is in Formula 1."
