McLaren Formula One driver
Lando Norris suggested there is a problem with how many people and media perceive drivers' performances.
After his unbelievable performance in Mexico City, Norris received a huge amount of praise from all sides, but when he made a mistake during the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix qualification, people started saying the 24-year-old had been making too many mistakes in 2023.
The Papaya driver pointed out how people in F1 tend to focus only on the most recent results rather than the season as a whole. He told
motrosport.com:
"Formula 1, I think, is often always too shortly judged. If one driver has two good weekends in a row they’re like ‘oh, he’s back’. But the next weekend, then it’s gone again, and it’s [the opposite]."
While the British driver had a few remarkable performances that stood out, he shared he has been happy with his overall consistency throughout the season.
"So, I think I’ve always had some good races every now and then, but when I look at it as a season, on ‘out of all of these races’, a lot more consistently, I was delivering on the Sunday."
If it hadn't been for one
small mistake during the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which resulted in retirement for Norris, he would have been the second driver besides
Max Verstappen to finish every single race of the season. The 24-year-old added:
"No matter the conditions, no matter if it was hot or cold or if the car was really quick or struggled a bit more, or if the set-up was where I wanted it or where it wasn’t, if I started at the front or the back – I could always kind of make the most of whatever situation I was in."
