There are currently nine circuits in the F1 calendar that have their contracts with Formula 1 expire before the end of 2026 and are in danger of not being included in the following years.
Formula One announced an addition of a new circuit to the 2026 calendar that we have never seen before. The Madrid Circuit will be part of F1 from 2026 at least until 2035.
This seems like great news for F1 fans. However, there is one problem. As it stands now, the schedule for the 2024 season already includes 24 weekends, and drivers with their teams have expressed disagreement with the growing number of races in a single season.
The 24 race weekends scheduled for the upcoming season is a record-breaking number, and it is yet to be seen how drivers and their teams will handle the super busy schedule.
What we know is that the 2023 season included 22 Grand Prix weekends, and everyone in the paddock was apparently totally exhausted during the last few weekends of the season.
There are spots in the 2024 schedule where two or three race weekends are stacked in a row. That is great for F1 fans, but drivers and their teams complained they needed more breaks.
With too many complaints on the table, it seems unlikely at this point in time that F1 would be adding more than 24 races to the official calendar. What would that mean?
One of the circuits that doesn't yet have a contract for the season 2026 will most probably be replaced by Madrid Circuit. Which nine circuits are still waiting for the contract? See the table below.
The list includes some legendary, very well-established classics like Suzuka, Silverstone, Imola, Monaco, and Monza. Could you imagine any of these tracks being removed from F1 in the upcoming two years?
