Former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella asserted that, from his perspective,
Max Verstappen should not go to
Mercedes.
When it was suggested that Helmut Marko might be suspended, Max Verstappen clearly warned that he would follow the 80-year-old if that were about to happen.
But why would the Dutchman leave a team that currently offers him the best car? That doesn't seem to make sense in the eyes of many experts and F1 fans.
"Anything is possible in Formula 1 and in life, you just never know. Nobody expected to see Lewis Hamilton moving from Mercedes and especially closing the deal with Ferrari. Nobody expected that."
Verstappen was mainly connected with a move to Mercedes because
Toto Wolff is searching for a driver that could replace the departing 39-year-old.
However, Mercedes seems to be struggling at the moment.
In Saudi Arabia, their car was the second slowest in the fast corners, and apparently, the bouncing issues are back.
As opposed to the German team,
Red Bull has consistently made progress and maintained their pace advantage over everyone.
The Austrian team provided Verstappen with a car that allowed him to qualify on pole and win both of the first two races of the season. Fisichella added:
"But we don't know if Max will join Mercedes, next year or in the future. In the place where he is now with the best team and the best car, it's stupid move to another team."
"The salary is good at Red Bull and it could be the same or even more in Mercedes, so who knows? But you've got a winning car, you are at the top of the world at the moment – why move to another team?"
