Mercedes Technical Director James Allison committed to the German team with a long-term contract ahead of the 2024 season.

The British motorsport designer and engineer James Allison returned to his position of technical director in Mercedes on 21st April 2023, swapping his jobs with Mike Elliott.

Allison was key in the development of Mercedes cars between seasons 2017 and 2021 when the team achieved immense success, winning all the Constructors' Championships.

In 2023, he returned to his previous position to resurrect Silver Arrows, who were lagging behind Red Bull throughout the majority of the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

While we wait for the unveiling of Mercedes's 2024 challenger, the German team announced a long-term contract extension with their technical director. Allison said:

"F1 has brought me a lot of good fortune, but none greater than answering Toto’s call to join Mercedes in 2017. It is a great privilege to continue this adventure, working alongside brilliant colleagues and fighting together for championship success."

The announcement of James Allison's contract extension followed the announcement of the contract extension of the Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff. Wolff commented on Allison's long-term commitment:

"I am thrilled that James has committed his long-term future to the team. Put simply, he is the most impressive technical leader in our sport."

Both Wolff and Allison are key team members essential for the team's success, and their commitment highlights stability within the German team. Wolff added:

"James is a true friend you can rely on, not only in times of success but in difficult moments too. It has been a pleasure to work with him over the past seven years, and I look forward to doing so for many more to come."

Can Mercedes make a comeback in 2024? Only magical 44 (Lewis Hamilton) days remain until we find out.
