According to Martin Brundle, Mercedes will have to start favoring George Russell over Lewis Hamilton during the upcoming season.

The 2024 season will be Lewis Hamilton's last with his team. As we learned a couple of weeks ago, the seven-time World Champion will be leaving for Ferrari ahead of 2025, which has a few serious implications.

The 39-year-old driver already has too much knowledge about Mercedes's concept of the car for seasons 2024 and 2025, which he can bring to Ferrari.

Now that his team knows he is leaving, they will need to exclude Hamilton from various meetings about future development, which will be challenging because, as a driver, Britton plays an essential role in these talks.

Toto Wolff asserted he completely trusts Hamilton's integrity concerning sharing information with another team. But even Max Verstappen suggested it would be an awkward situation for the German team.

Scuderia is one of Mercedes's biggest rivals in the battle for the title, and any sort of information leak might be detrimental to the Gemran team's Championship result.

Sky Sports commentator and a former F1 driver Martin Brundle said he believes there will be a point during the upcoming season when Mercedes will stop sharing information with the 39-year-old.

Whats more, he pointed out that should give an edge to the seven-time World Champion's younger teammate George Russell. He said on Sky Sports F1 podcast:

"You've got this transition point where Lewis will stop being invited to meetings, will not understand what's going on with development of the car in the simulator, and the team consciously, subconsciously will favour George, they've got to."

As Sergio Perez said, watching how the situation inside Mercedes develops throughout the season will be interesting. What would add even more fuel to the fire is if Silver Arrows had a title-contending car this year.

Who do you think will come out on top? Will it be the seven-time World Champion or the up-and-coming Russell?
