Former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle suggested the last season of Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes will be like a farewell tour for both parties.
The announcement of Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes came at a pretty unusual time because the seven-time World Champion still has to finish one more season with the German team.
Some drivers like Max Verstappen suggested that might create an awkward situation. The problem is that Mercedes won't want to share new pieces of technical information with the 39-year-old, which he could take with him to Ferrari.
This means he will have to be left out of some crucial team meetings. Nevertheless, Martin Brundle believes both the team and Hamilton will give it everything in their last season together. He said on the Sky Sports F1 podcast:
"I have no doubt he will give it absolutely everything he's got until the last lap of the last race in Abu Dhabi for Mercedes-Benz."
Hamilton has been with Silver Arrows for a very long time, 11 seasons, to be precise. In 2024, the seven-time World Champion and Mercedes will break the record for the longest driver-team pairing in the history of F1.
It is in the best interest of both sides to make the best of their last season together, and the former Formula 1 driver suggested they will treat 2024 as a "farewell tour."
"He will be wearing those overalls, holding that steering wheel, representing 1,500 people. If everybody is smart in that, and I think they are all very smart people, and they have had such a wonderful relationship together, I think they will see it as a farewell tour."
Don't forget, the 39-year-old still has a chance to achieve his eighth World Championship title with Mercedes. How probable is it? That is hard to tell; we must wait to see how the season unfolds. Brundle added:
"I think that's how they should and will treat it, and then wish him farewell and hope that he loses in a Ferrari."
