Sergio Perez suggested watching the dynamics between Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari, and Mercedes in the upcoming two seasons will be very interesting.
The team with the fastest car in Formula 1 most usually wins. Therefore, the development race is at least equally as important as the actual races we see on track.
Each team has multiple departments trying to come up with new innovative solutions that would make their car faster. But how is this related to Lewis Hamilton?
The seven-time World Champion has been with Mercedes for 11 seasons already. He knows every detail about Mercedes's current car and will be taking a lot of knowledge with him to Ferrari once he changes team at the end of the 2024 season.
Moreover, the fact that he announced his move to Scuderia a year earlier means that Mercedes will need to be careful with everything they share with the 39-year-old during the upcoming season to prevent the leak of secret information. Sergio Perez during Red Bull's recent RB20 launch:
"I think the dynamics will be interesting to watch from the outside. We have a driver that is moving teams, we don’t know how jealous the teams are about sharing information, obviously Lewis has been many years there and will be taking a lot of knowledge to another team so that will be some interesting dynamics to watch from the outside."
Toto Wolff suggested he does not doubt the Briton's integrity concerning the data leakage dilemma. However, how they will approach the communication with the seven-time World Champion during the season remains to be seen.
Hamilton will also leave an empty seat in Mercedes, and many drivers will be keen on replacing the 39-year-old if the opportunity arises. But Perez added his focus is not on the driver market at the moment.
"I’m sure most of the drivers will be willing to get things done much earlier [in the driver market] in the year, but from my side I’m just focused on having a great year, I’m not really bothered about it."
