During his most recent interview,
Ferrari driver
Charles Leclerc shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.
Charles Leclerc signed a contract extension ahead of the 2024 season. It is said to be a multi-year deal, which means we will see the Monqgasque driver in Ferrari at least until the end of 2026.
Scuderia is obviously satisfied with the 26-year-old and believes in his potential, and Leclerc is committed to getting the Championship with the red, as he said multiple times in the past. In his most recent interview, he said, according to
Dailymail:
"To win the championship, this is the only target I have. I'm only happy when I win, second place is not my target."
While he clearly stated his "only target, " the Ferrari driver is aware that his team needs to make bigger progress than
Red Bull to catch up, not to mention the progress that would actually be required to have a faster car.
"You need to give yourself realistic targets as well, as much as we are always optimistic and try to do the best job possible."
On the other hand, Red Bull's
Adrian Newey suggested in a recent interview that his team may have been too conservative with development going into 2024, which could have given an advantage to their rivals. Nevertheless, Leclerc remains careful.
"We all want to win but looking at where we are starting from from last year, Red Bull had a big advantage. So now we need to close the gap as much as possible. So we will do absolutely everything to try and, and do the step that, that is our goal in order to challenge.'"
Pre-season testing takes place in less than two weeks from now. The start of the season is around the corner, and we will see the first signs of Ferrari's progress
at the launch of their car on February 13th.
