Charles Leclerc admitted he knew about Ferrari's talks with Lewis Hamilton and discussed the situation between him and his current teammate in a recent interview.
It is safe to say that Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari caught almost everyone by surprise. Some drivers admitted they knew about the contract beforehand, and it was speculated that Charles Leclerc was also aware of it before the announcement.
In his most recent interview published by Sky Sports on X (formerly Twitter), Leclerc confirmed he was aware of the talks between the Prancing Horse and the seven-time World Champion. As
"I knew, of course, there were some talks. These are not deals that are finalized overnight, so I, of course, knew about the discussions that were going on."
Many fans would be interested to know how the Monegasque driver truly feels about this change of his teammates, but the 26-year-old refused to elaborate.
"I don't want to compare teammates to each other, and as well I don't want to go too much into details of that out of respect for Carlos, especially because we've had great years together, and we've had a great relationship."
Hamilton going to Ferrari is an incredible teaser for the season 2025, but there is still one season in between which he has to finish with Mercedes, and Sainz has to finish with Scuderia.
"We've got one year together, and we will try to finish on the highest note possible. It's been absolutely great to be working with Carlos."
Sainz has arguably been an equal match to the 26-year-old, but starting from 2025, a new real challenge awaits Leclerc. Direct comparison to the seven-time World Champion will show exactly how fast the Ferrari driver is.
"On the other hand, we've got such an incredible champion joining the team in Lewis. I have a great relationship with Lewis. It's a great opportunity for Ferrari and myself."
In the end, Leclerc returned to the fact that he still has one more season with his Spanish teammate and hinted Ferrari might have a chance of competing for the title as he said:
"But again, I don't want to go too much into the details of that. As for now, we are still into 2024, with still one season to go, and I'll give my best in order to finish the collaboration with Carlos on a high and hopefully with the title. That would be the best possible way."
