AlphaTauri F1 driver Liam Lawson shared his expectations and thoughts ahead of the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix.
Ever since getting his chance to hop into the cockpit of the F1 car, Liam Lawson has consistently been proving his qualities. So far, the Kiwi driver got a chance to compete in four Grands Prix races of the season, and he is confirmed to race for AlphaTauri again in Qatar.
While Daniel Ricciardo is recovering from his accident, Lawson has beaten his teammate Yuki Tsunoda in every single one of the races he participated in (Tsunoda did not finish two of them) and also scored the best result of the season so far by finishing ninth during the Singapore Grand Prix.
In an interview for Formula One, Lawson shared he has already been practicing and preparing for this weekend's Grand Prix on the simulator. Number 40 driver shared how he perceives the layout of the Lusail International Circuit.
"It’s very fast, a very high-speed circuit and quite unique, and I’ve not seen many tracks like it, as there’s only one low-speed corner in the whole track. The rest is just fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh gear, so I think it’s going to be exciting to drive."
It is not sure how many races are left for Lawson to showcase his driving skills, so he is prepared to make the most out of every lap. Drivers will have only one practice session to make adjustments to their cars and get used to the circuit. While Lawson said it will be exciting, he also expects the Qatar Grand Prix to be "tougher" than previous races.
"With only one free practice session, we drivers will have to know where to improve because it’ll get faster at night when it’s much cooler. And we need to know exactly how to extract everything out of the car. I’m expecting it to be tougher than the races we’ve just done."
