Former F1 driver David Coulthard evaluated
Lewis Hamilton's chances of winning with
Ferrari and suggested people shouldn't put him down.
Lewis Hamilton hasn't been showing his best form since the end of the summer break. In the last seven Grand Prix races, his average finishing position was P7.
At the same time, he has been outperformed by his teammate
George Russell 5-2 in terms of the Grand Prix results. Consequently, people started to
question whether Hamilton had what it takes ahead of his move to Ferrari.
Some, including Former F1 supremo
Bernie Ecclestone even already stated that the
39-year-old F1 driver won't achieve his eighth World Championship title with the team from Maranello.
The biggest factor behind Hamilton's struggles recently has been his poor qualifying form. In the last seven Grand Prix races, he qualified in P11, P6, P7, P3, P19, P6, P16 for the average of P10.
While Former F1 driver David Coulthard suggests that the seven-time World Champion will need to improve his qualifying form, he also asserted that Hamilton should not be doubted as he told Mirror Sport:
"Lewis is rolling the dice again with Ferrari. It may well lead to a rejuvenation of performance and a fight for the world championship."
"But it is going to be challenging because he has got [to beat] a very fast Charles Leclerc. The key ingredient of all of the greats over the history of time has been to be able to qualify and race."
"And if Lewis, at 40 years old, has lost a yard in footballing terms, then he may well struggle to beat Charles over the course of a year."
"That is a legitimate question that anyone should be asking, but it is for him to show us. It is not about us putting him down and saying he cannot do it, because it is in his hands. All of these guys have it in their own hands to shape their own future."
