Carlos Sainz suggested he could not understand the choices of some people after being replaced in
Ferrari and negotiating with almost every F1 team on the grid.
Formula 1 World was hit with one of the biggest news of the decade shortly ahead of the pre-season testing in Bahrain when it was announced that Lewis Hamilton would be leaving Mercedes and replacing Carlos Sainz in Ferrari at the start of 2025.
Although this was harsh for the Spanish driver, everyone in the paddock knows his qualities and from the time of announcement, it was clear that he would find a place elsewhere on the grid.
For a while, Sainz seemed like one of the most serious candidates for a seat in
Mercedes,
Aston Martin, and even
Red Bull, where he could potentially replace
Sergio Perez.
However, all of these teams ultimately decided to pass on the 30-year-old, and he was left with a decision between
Alpine,
Sauber, and
Williams.
As we now know, he
chose the British team - Williams. Speaking to
Sky Sports, Carlos Sainz said he has come to peace with everything, although he still has trouble understanding why some people made
"certain choices.""I have definitely come to peace. I am a true believer that, if I don't go there, it's because life doesn't want me to."
"It's because something else is coming that will turn out to be good. It hurt at the time. We all have egos. I have a driver ego."
— <br>"I couldn't understand it, at the time. I still cannot understand certain choices that people have done. But it creates more of a challenge in me, and makes me more excited for Williams."
"Williams invested in me, that have backed me from the beginning, that came to me a full year ago. It makes me excited, I want to give back to them what they gave to me. It gives me strength. I can't wait to go and build something good."
