Juan Pablo Montoya accused RB driver Liam Lawson of stealing points from Red Bull Racing with his on-track behavior.
Liam Lawson has replaced Daniel Ricciardo in the VCARB / RB following the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. Since then, the 22-year-old completed three race weekends - in two of which he scored points for his team.
Notably, in two of these three weekends, Lawson finished ahead of the Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez, whom he would like to replace after the end of the 2024 season.
Each time Lawson faces Perez on track, he gives it his everything to not be passed by the Mexican F1 driver. This resulted in a collision during the Mexico City Grand Prix, after which Perez stated that Lawson didn't have the right attitude for F1.
During the following race in Sao Paulo, the two met on the track again. Although the Red Bull driver looked faster, he couldn't overtake the 22-year-old for 21 laps (between lap 34 and lap 55), and then he lost a position to Lewis Hamilton.
So ultimately, Lawson finished in P9 and Perez in P11 - outside of the points. Juan Pablo Montoya told W Radio Colombia that the only thing that the New Zealander is doing at the moment is costing Red Bull valuable points in the Championship.
"In the Sprint race in Brazil, Checo [Perez] did a great job. And in the main race, when he was able to overtake Liam…"
"Honestly, I don't know what Liam is playing at. I said it in Mexico and I repeat it now. I don't understand what Liam is playing at."
"I understand that he wants to prove that he is better, that Checo is 'nobody' and he is capable of anything, but the only thing Liam is doing is stealing points from Red Bull for the Constructors' World Championship."
"Checo was very clean and made it easy for Liam, but Liam was tough again."
