Bruno Famin reacted to the huge changes that happened in the drivers' market recently when Lewis Hamilton decided to leave Mercedes for Ferrari.
In 2024, two very attractive seats will be up for grabs: in Red Bull and in Mercedes. Rumors suggest Red Bull has a driver from its own family -
Daniel Ricciardo- at the top of its list.
However, the door at Mercedes might open to everyone. Multiple drivers are said to have a chance. The most-mentioned names currently include
Alex Albon,
Fernando Alonso, and
Esteban Ocon.
Many drivers would not waste their chances if they got an offer for a seat from a top team like Mercedes, so teams like
Alpine should hurry up with new contracts if they want to prevent their drivers from leaving. Bruno Famin told the media at
yesterday's launch of A524:
"We have not waited for Hamilton going to Ferrari to talk to our drivers. We’re talking currently to our drivers."
Alpine can be satisfied with the performances of their two drivers, who managed to score on podiums last season despite having only the sixth-fastest car.
"I’m very happy of the relationship we have with them, with the communication we have with them, and with the job they’re doing – we are happy with our drivers."
Esteban Ocon also spoke to the media at the launch of Alpine's new car, and while he said he is fully committed to the French team at the moment, he didn't completely reject the idea of going to Mercedes in 2025.
The 27-year-old driver is even linked to the German team as he is still part of Mercedes's academy. Nevertheless, Famin asserted that both Alpine's drivers are currently happy with his team. He added:
"Again, I think we’re happy with them. I understand, let’s wait for the first race and the performance of the car, but I understand they are happy with the team, then let’s talk a bit later about that."
