Ferrari driver
Charles Leclerc, who is notorious in F1 for being unlucky, answered whether he believes in luck.
Charles Leclerc has been in Formula 1 for seven seasons. During this period, he achieved 23 pole positions but was able to turn only 5 of them into race wins.
Part of that was that Ferrari had a car excellent for qualifying, but not good enough in terms of race pace which would result in Leclerc losing positions as soon as a race began.
However, the 26-year-old has also been unlucky on so many occasions that he has become notorious for his misfortune. Let's name only a few instances of unlucky moments from the 2023 season.
Starting with the first race in
Bahrain, Leclerc was running in P3 and then had to retire due to reliability issues. In
Australia, he got sandwiched between two
Aston Martin drivers, sent into the gravel, and had to retire.
In
Spain, Ferrari chose the wrong car setup for the Monegasque, which meant he had to start from the pit lane and finished only 11th. In
Hungary, he lost nine seconds because of a lengthy pit stop.
In
Austin, Leclerc was disqualified because his team set up his car too low, which is against the regulations. And finally, in
Sao Paulo, he retired before the race even began due to technical issues.
That was only one season, and there have been many more unlucky incidents in Leclerc's career. As reported by @FanaticsFerrari, he was asked whether he believes in bad luck, and the Monegasque responded:
"I don't want to believe it, because if you start to believe it you are conditioned on a mental level. I have never had superstitious rituals, I only focus on what I see and know. I ignore superficial things."
The 2024 season didn't begin as the Ferarri driver would have liked, as
technical issues lost him more than 10 seconds during the first race in Bahrain. Can Leclerc overcome his bad luck in the remainder of the season?
