Carlos Sainz shared his opinion on changes that Formula One could implement for the next season - 2024.
With the 2023 season concluded, drivers have been asked what they would like to see changed or improved in the future with fresh memories of 2023 in mind.
One of the most common wishes was to make the future F1 cars lighter as they have become quite bigger and bulkier over the last ten years.
Carlos Sainz sees it similarly; he also called for weight reduction and change in aero so the F1 cars produce less "dirty air," which makes it hard to follow them in corners.
"The raceability of the cars has been improved and we need to keep working on that direction, make them maybe a bit narrower, bit lighter and keep the aero under control so we don't suffer too much when we're behind each other."
The 2026 technical rules apparently try to address the issue of heavy cars with a target of reducing the weight by around 50 kilograms.
The Ferrari driver focused on the racing aspect of the sport as he pointed out it is easier to overtake on some circuits, and almost impossible to overtake on others.
"I think the circuits can make a bit of an effort too. I think when we go to circuits like São Paulo, and Austin, there are circuits that are just simply a lot better for overtaking than others."
Circuits that make it easier for drivers to overtake, in general, provide F1 fans with more exciting and thrilling battles, and drivers also enjoy the race more if they aren't stuck behind one car for the whole race. Sainz added:
"And I think there can be made a bit of an effort in other track designs, future track designs or even designs that are already made. I think Formula 1 is in a very good moment right now."
