Ten-time Grand Prix winner Valtteri Bottas suggested improvements that Formula One could implement starting from season 2024.
The 2023 F1 season came to an end, and a common question for the drivers and their team principals is what they would change about F1 after this year.
When asked what he would like to see changed in Formula One immediately, the Alfa Romeo driver gave the media two answers straightaway:
"Some of the things have been addressed for the next generation of cars, and I believe they should be a bit lighter, that's naturally going to go to improve racing. I still think with the format, especially on the Sprint weekend, there's work to do."
Sprint weekends have been one of the most discussed topics towards the end of the season. Multiple people share various perspectives, but one thing is sure, we will see them in 2024.
While the six venues that will be hosting the Sprint weekends in 2024 have been announced, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated he will be working with FOM and F1 teams on possible changes to the concept,
One of the most popular suggestions debated recently has been a reversed grid for the race, but Bottas came up with something completely new as he suggests "one-shot" qualifying.
"I always keep saying single lap qualifying would be exciting so that you would synchronize that, yeah, that's one by one, people could follow each car.
F1, in collaboration with FIA and Pirelli, has been trying to limit the emissions by various measures. The Finn suggested limiting the number of tires used could be very beneficial for the Sprint race show and from a sustainability point of view as well.
"Imagine the amount of tyres we would save? We are using so many tyres in the weekend and if we want to be more sustainable as a sport, I think that's one argument.
