Formula One posted on X (Twitter) earlier today an announcement of six venues that will host sprint weekends in the 2024 season.
Sprint weekends have been a highly debated topic throughout the 2023 season, as some fans and drivers liked the concept of having more racing in one weekend, but some had reservations.
We have great news for those who liked Sprint weekends in 2023 because F1 announced earlier today there would be six Sprint weekends in 2024 and we know the locations.
The 2024 Sprint weekend locations are quite similar to 2023, but there are two changes. While Austria, Austin, Sao Paulo, and Qatar will remain as the venues for sprint weekends in 2024, we won't see a sprint race in Azerbaijan and Belgium.
Both Azerbaijan and Belgium will be replaced by Shanghai and Miami. F1 fans have not seen a race in China this year due to its cancellation but will get compensation for it next year with two races in one weekend.
With Formula One shifting its focus towards the American Market, it also makes sense to see two of the four sprint races in the United States. Counting both Sprints and Grand Prix Races, there will be a total of six races in the United States in 2024.
FIA president Ben Sulayem hinted that we might see a change in the Sprint race format going into 2024. He plans to discuss possible changes with FOM (Formula One Management) and the teams.

"We must continuously develop and adapt to ensure we are doing what is best for the sport, and as such we are working with FOM and the teams to define the future direction of the Sprint format."

Possible changes might include different increases in points scored for the win in Sprint races and reversal of the grid in order to differentiate Sprint races from Grand Prix races.
