Oscar Piastri gave insight into his relationships inside the team, mainly with his McLaren teammate Lando Norris.
Oscar Piastri came to McLaren as a replacement for one of the most loved drivers on the grid - Daniel Ricciardo. The rookie, therefore, might have expected not the warmest reception.
However, the 22-year-old stated in an interview with Formula 1 he felt super welcomed by the team from the first moment:
"It's been really good, even from the beginning. I felt very, very welcomed by the team. From that side of things, I've always felt part of the team. The relationship with Lando has been very good from the start, especially our working relationship – it has been very strong."
Lando Norris is known for not having a problem with other drivers, so the relationship between the two seems great so far. But the Australian is even happier with the working side of the relationship.
"We've always said quite similar things about what we want from the car, which I guess is reassuring for the engineers and also for us, that we want the same things."
McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently shared that the team has been getting very similar feedback from both drivers, which has been super encouraging and valuable. Piastri continued:
"Of course, there are slight differences here and there, but broadly it’s the same picture, which is very useful, and then we've been getting to know each other better and better through the year."
Relationships between teammates can get quite tense if they find themselves in the battle for Grand Prix wins or even the Championship as we have seen in the past with other teammates. However, Piastri believes the two drivers are "in a good place."
“I feel like we're in a good place. Obviously, we're going to be alongside each other for a few more years to come, which is exciting. But I feel like I'm definitely part of the team and looking forward to the next few years."
