Martin Brundle doesn't see a point in debating whether Ferrari made the right decision to replace Carlos Sainz with the seven-time world champion.
With Carlos Sainz outperforming his teammate Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton being outperformed by his teammate George Russell, Ferrari might start questioning whether they made the right decision ahead of the 2024 season.
Will Ferrari regret the decision they made? Did they replace the right driver with the right driver? Will they reconsider their options at some point in the season?
Martin Brundle believes the team won't let anyone know about it even if they did, as he told Sky Sports F1 podcast:
"Well, if they do, they certainly won't be letting us know about it. They've made their decisions. You know, Charles is a world-class racing driver."
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are a duo that worked very well for the team. The two had some close moments on the track throughout the years, even in 2024, but have never had a single collision.
"What they've done is they have a great pairing, they've got a great pair now, and they are losing that which is just about manageable together considering how competitive they are, they're future-proof and they're just perfect, they're great marketing kits. They're great everything really."
"And then broken that up because they want to take Lewis because he is a seven-time world champion, and he transcends our sport by some margin."
Sainz has never had a better start to his season while Hamilton has never had a worse start to the season in his career.
While this isn't something Ferrari might want to see one year before changing the two, Brundle sees no reason to debate whether the Italian team made the right call. He added:
"Have they let the wrong one go? Or should they have let either go? We can debate that all day long. But there's no point in wasting heartbeats on that. That's what Ferrari are going to do, and we'll see what Lewis can do in a Ferrari."
