Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger said he believes Scuderia
Ferrari has the highest chance of closing the gap to
Red Bull.
The 2024 season kicks off with the first race in
Bahrain in just 30 days. Both teams and F1 fans anticipate this race so much because it will be there that we find out whether any if the teams have been able to close the gap with Red Bull.
Quite a few pundits gave their opinions on which F1 team could be the one to go toe to toe with Red Bull. In general, the most mentioned teams were Ferrari,
McLaren, and
Mercedes.
Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger leans more towards what Jordan said. He gave his two cents on the topic in an interview with
Auto Motor und Sport:
"I still have the most confidence in Ferrari. They were better in the second half of the season than the results showed."
Ferrari started the 2023 season as maybe the fourth fastest team and then worked their way up.
In the second half of the season, the Prancing Horse was the second-best team.
Ferrari was the only team besides Red Bull to win a Grand Prix last year after Carlos Sainz won the Singapore Grand Prix.
Moreover, the Italian team also almost beat Red Bull once more during the season's penultimate race – the Las Vegas Grand Prix. On the other hand, Berger pointed out other teams cannot be underestimated as he added:
"You should never underestimate Mercedes and [Lewis] Hamilton, and McLaren is also doing a very good job."
