Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack recently stated Aston Martin would absolutely be interested in extending the contract with Fernando Alonso after the 2024 season.
The double World Champion Fernando Alonso joined Aston Martin ahead of the 2023 season with a two-year contract guaranteeing him a place until the end of 2024.
Back then, when he signed the contract, neither the Spaniard nor his team knew how successful the 2023 season would be. While Aston Martin built a great car, Alonso was the one who provided amazing results.
The 42-year-old proved he is still not too old for F1 as he finished fourth in the Championship, outperformed his teammate, and scored all the team's podiums (8).
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack showed the team is keen on keeping the Spanish Matador. Asked whether the team would like to extend Alonso's contract, Krack responded:
"I think I don’t have to answer that question. Absolutely yes! As a team, we were blown away from the first day – until today, actually."
Alonso scored a podium already in the first race of the season after an amazing race in Bahrain, and the double World Champion himself said that was one of the best races of the 2023 season. Krack added:
"To be honest with you, I always thought it was a bit honeymoon months in the beginning but I’m quite happy that we have managed to extend the honeymoon."
The Spaniard broke a record after the end of the 2023 season for being the first Formula One driver to complete 20 seasons in the sport.
Spanish Matador is the most experienced driver on the grid who raced for multiple successful teams and brings immense value and knowledge to Aston Martin.
"I think we have received a remarkable team player, constructive at all times, especially when it was difficult."
The 42-year-old driver also mentioned lately he still feels fit enough for the sport, doesn't lack motivation, and wants to keep racing, so it seems quite possible we might see Alonso in Aston Martin even beyond 2024.
