Aston Martin's ambassador and former F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa hinted that his team and Lance Stroll would be interested in extending their collaboration.
Lance Stroll is one of the drivers whose contract expires at the end of this season. Though he hasn't signed anything yet, it was more or less expected Aston Martin would want to continue with him.
On the other hand, Eddie Jordan said on a recent episode of the Formula for Success podcast he wouldn't be surprised to see a Spanish Aston Martin duo in 2025, suggesting Carlos Sainz would replace Lance Stroll.
Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill proposed the same thing during his appearance on the F1 Nation podcast, but Pedro de la Rosa countered him with an argument:
"Why should Lance not continue? I mean, there's every reason to continue in the team with all the projects, and that's the reason why Fernando decided to stay."
"He's had two incredible races in Jeddah and Australia where there was some parts of the race that he was faster than Fernando. He finished behind him. Well, in fact, in Australia, in front of him. So, I mean, come on."
The Canadian driver has been under fire during the last season for not being able to match his more experienced teammate Fernando Alonso, who prolonged his contract with Aston Martin last week.
After the first four rounds of the 2024 season, Stroll stands 10th in the Championship, two positions and 15 points behind his teammate. On the contrary, he is only one point behind the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton. De la Rosa added:
"Why would you want to not continue racing if you can see what's going on behind the scenes in the factory, with the new wind tunnel, with the people joining the team. We're generating here an incredible team for the future."
"I think changes on the driver lineup are bad in Formula 1 if you have a strong lineup. I just believe that the way we should keep going is just by keeping our drivers because that's the strongest team we can be."
