Fernando Alonso revealed his biggest concern now that he knows he will stay in F1 at least until he is 45.
Fernando Alonso is the oldest man on the grid. Though he recently joked that another driver (Lewis Hamilton) will enter his forties next year, he is older by almost four years.
Nevertheless, the double World Champion doesn't seem to lose any of his drive or speed, which is clear from his on-track results and from the fact that Aston Martin wanted to retain him with a multi-year deal.
The new contract will take the Spanish matador into the 2026 season at least. Now that the deal is set and done, he revealed to the media his biggest concern when deciding about his future. As quoted by Total-Motorsport.com, he said:
"My biggest concern. Or the bad side of driving is just missing my family and not having a normal life or my own family at one point or whatever."
"But in this regard, I said, 'okay I'll see year by year, month by month' and I spoke with my family. They will also come more often to races, all of them are coming to Miami now. My mother, my sister, my two nieces."
Almost all of the drivers currently on the grid can't imagine driving for so long as they all have other dreams and goals in life they want to pursue after their careers.
Alonso, on the other hand, seems to want to do nothing but race in F1. When the 42-year-old driver was asked about his long-term commitment, he replied:
"I love driving too much, I cannot stop at the moment. I think the sacrifices that you have to make are smaller than the joy of driving and the passion that I have for driving."
"I breathe F1. I live F1. I train to be fit to drive F1 cars. I eat to drive F1 cars. The moment didn't arrive where I felt that I need to change my lifestyle. My lifestyle is great, and I love what I do."
