The Alpine Formula One team announced their car 2024 car launch date on social media. Here is a summary of what we know and can expect.
Alpine's 2023 car - A523 was a step back compared to the 2022 in relation to the competitor's performance. In 2022, Alpine finished fourth and in 2023, the French team finished only sixth.
Alpine has not been in the top three for quite a long time, and going into 2024, the team will try to change that. Esteban Ocon outlined the mindset, saying he wants to close the gap to the top teams and does not care whether it is realistic or not.
The 2024 car will most probably be called A534, and we do not expect to see a copy of Red Bull's car. Alpine's technical director, Matt Harman, suggested they wouldn't be able to catch the competition if they copied them.
The French team will, therefore, want to pursue their own direction. Moreover, Harmann suggested he was quite satisfied with some of the aero elements on A523 that he was trying to be humble about.
While some teams like Mercedes or Ferrari teased very significant changes to their 2024 challengers, there haven't been such suggestions from the French team.
The potential problem for Alpine in 2024 could be the lately changed regulations in relation to the allocation of power units (PUs) per season. The number has been reduced from four to three despite the fact that there will be two more races in the 2024 calendar.
Alpine has been one of the teams that have been struggling with PU reliability the most throughout the last couple of seasons.
Nevertheless, we don't know yet what surprise the French team prepared for season 2024. Could we see Ocon and Pierre Gasly fighting for podiums more frequently?
The first indications about the team's progress will be revealed during its car launch, which has been announced to take place on 07.02.2024.
As it stands now, Alpine will be the third team to reveal their car following Williams and Stake F1 teams which both announced their launch dates on 05.02.2024.
