AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer revealed his team would bring the last major upgrade of this season for the race in Abu Dhabi as a part of preparations for the next season.
AlphaTauri team went from being last in the Constructors' Championship to eighth place in a matter of few races as the team successfully introduced new upgrades, making their car faster nearing the end of the season.
As opposed to
Alfa Romeo or
Haas who failed to score a single point, AlphaTauri achieved point positions in three of the last four races of the season. Peter Bayer told RacingNews365:
"Since the summer, when we saw that the car was not working, we changed the concept. We basically said 'we'll keep continuously developing now.'"
Alphatauri team will undergo a rebrand between seasons 2023 and 2024 and
potential name and logo of the team have been leaked.
While the rebranded car will look different next year, Bayer explained the components they currently test are parts of preparations for the 2024 car.
"So everything you see now is a preparation for next year. We'll bring another big update to Abu Dhabi which is another step into the 2024 car."
The team's CEO explained how a change in ideology was needed in order to identify the steps needed to make AlphaTauri cars competitive.
"We took a step back to try to understand what was working and what was wrong. We kept the good bits and threw the wrong bit out the window."
Some F1 teams like Haas struggle to make a progress with their concepts. Bayer explained it takes a lot of time and testing before his team brings anything to the track. He concluded:
"But to design them, to test them in the wind tunnel to see if they work and take them to the track, it takes time. The factory is still running in three shifts at the moment. We are continuing to develop and so gradually work toward 2024."
