Formula One driver Alex Albon discussed the future of his team under the new Chief Technical Officer Pat Fry, who joined Williams in the middle of 2023.
Pat Fry is one of the most experienced motorsport engineers on the F1 grid. He previously worked in teams such as Alpine, McLaren, Ferrari, Manor Racing, and Benetton.
It was announced during the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix that Pat Fry will be moving from Alpine to Williams in the same position as the Chief Technical Officer. Alex Albon discussed this new valuable addition to Williams recently. As quoted by motorsport.com, he said:
"Time will tell. Obviously, he's just joined the team, I think he's getting up to speed very quickly. I feel like he's understanding the areas we need to improve in as well, which he will offer that guidance and mentorship to the team. So I'm very excited to have him on board."
Fry lately shared his ambitions concerning the Williams F1 team with the media when he said his ultimate goal is to make Williams a Championship contender in two, three, or four years.
Albon also added his team sacrificed a lot towards the end of the season as it stopped bringing new upgrades and was almost overtaken by AlphaTauri in the end.
"And I think we've sacrificed a lot this year to get to focus on next year's car, we haven't upgraded for much longer than our rivals. That can only really be a good thing."
The 27-year-old was one of the main reasons for Williams's seventh place in the Constructors' Championship, as he amassed 27 out of 28 points for the team. He called 2023 his best season ever.
Albon looks forward to performance improvements going into the 2024 season, which will be the first proper year for their new team principal, James Vowles, and the CTO, Pat Fry.
"We did the bare minimum to finish P7. And now we're eyes on to next year. Obviously we have Pat on board, and it will be James's first proper year where he's had true leadership in the development of the car. So let's see."
