According to multiple sources, Williams Racing is considering replacing Logan Sargeant after the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.
American driver Logan Sargeant has not had the smoothest season so far. With multiple mistakes, crashes, and DNFs, Williams was reported to have been thinking about replacing him after the summer break.
He has been out-qualified by his teammate Alex Albon in every Grand Prix qualifying so far, and Williams has already found a replacement for him for the next season: Carlos Sainz.
While the British team ultimately decided to stick with the 23-year-old even after the summer break, reports suggest that after his big and costly crash in FP3 this weekend, James Vowles is yet again exploring his alternatives. Sky Sports' Craig Slater said:
“"Williams are evaluating whether they should sub sargeant out of the car before the end of the season and perhaps place another driver in there."”
Williams's team principal faces the problem that he needs an experienced driver who will not crash the car (as he can't afford any more damage), and almost none are available.
Mercedes' young talent, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, although not very experienced, could have been a good option for the team. However, Sky Sports reports there is "zero interest" from Mercedes in putting the 18-year-old into Williams' car already in 2024.
Another great option might be Liam Lawson, who has already been set in an F1 car for five Grand Prix weekends and has shown he has what it takes. However, Helmut Marko stated during the summer break that the 22-year-old is unavailable for other teams.
The last option that Vowles might consider is perhaps Mick Schumacher- who has competed in F1 for two full seasons. Alpine recently decided to promote Jack Doohan over Schumacher, so he is still available on the market and would very much like an opportunity to show he still deserves a seat in F1.
What do you think? Should the team principal of Williams replace the American driver? If yes, who should he pick? Is there perhaps another better option that we didn't mention?
