Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc reacted to his part in the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos Circuit.
Charles Leclerc showed a promising pace in the sprint race on Sunday, during which he made up two positions to finally cross the line in P5.
The sprint race brought some encouraging signs for the Ferrari fans who could not wait to see what Charles Leclerc would do at the start of the race going into the first corner alongside Verstappen.
Unfortunately, the Ferrari driver did not get the chance even to start the race as he encountered a hydraulics issue during the formation lap. He came on the radio shouting: "Why the f**k am I so unlucky."
As a result, his Ferrari went spinning outside of the track into the barriers between turns six and seven. The 26-year-old told the media after the incident:
"When I lost the steering wheel, I went straight basically because I had no hydraulics anymore. I don't think it's a hydraulics problem. I mean, I know what it is. I cannot go too much into the detail."
The strange thing here is that Leclerc seemed to know exactly what the issue was, but he just was not allowed to say. The Monegasque driver elaborated:
"There was an engine thing which made be lock the rear wheels and then obviously I spun and hit the wall so I couldn't do anything."
Leclerc's teammate Carlos Sainz, starting from the seventh place on the grid, finished in P6. Ultimately, it seemed like McLaren, Red Bull, and Aston Martin were just too fast for the Ferrari.
On the positive side for the Italian team, their main Championship rival, Mercedes, had an even worse weekend. The gap between the two teams in the fight for second place in the Constructors' Championship came down to 20 points as a result.
