Lando Norris achieved his 15th podium in F1, and even though he's yet to win, finishing behind
Max Verstappen feels like a win for him.
The 24-year-old Brit is one of the most talented drivers in Formula One, but even though he managed to stand on the podium already 15 times, most recently at the 2024
Chinese Grand Prix, he never stood on the top spot.
Norris was once again relatively close to winning at the
Shanghai International Circuit, finishing the race second, only behind the
Red Bull driver, while keeping another driver of the Austrian team,
Sergio Perez, behind him.
That performance showed that Norris is a really talented driver, celebrating his second place like a win, given that only the most dominant driver of the two seasons finished ahead of him.
"Whenever I finish behind Max, I feel like it's a win. A great day, really a surprise, I was not expecting a day like today. So I'm very happy for myself and for the whole team, more importantly. [It] definitely exceeded our expectations but a lot of things went our way."
The British driver, who was
surprised by the lack of pace from Ferrari, heaped even more praise on his rival and friend, but even despite targeting the race win after 15 podiums in Formula One, he wasn't too confident about winning the race in 2024.
"Max is doing a good job and Red Bull are doing an amazing job, so I can't fault them and I can't be too annoyed at that. But I feel like I'm getting a lot out of the car, especially on Sundays so I have to be happy with the job I'm doing."
"And one day, I think it's coming [a race win]. I think this year, I'm not over confident in saying it, I think we can get a win this year but it's going to be difficult and we have a lot of work to do."
