Max Verstappen is not only winning and dominating F1, he's also having fun along the way, attempting to drift a Formula One car.
The Dutchman is up to four race wins in 2024 and
one Sprint race victory. He also won the 2024
Chinese Grand Prix,
overcoming a couple of Safety Cars en route to climbing to the top spot on the podium.
Despite the race being neutralized halfway through the 56-lap race distance, Verstappen still managed to create over a 13-second gap to the second
Lando Norris in
McLaren.
Once again, it was a dominant performance from the three-time World Champion, who has been in the league of his own in the past two seasons, and 2024 doesn't seem to be any different.
Having so much time on his hands, the 26-year-old is looking for ways to entertain himself, and he found one quite risky in the closing stages of the Grand Prix race at the
Shanghai International Circuit.
Exiting the second-to-last corner, after the longest straight at the circuit, the race leader attempted to do a drift, which resulted in a power slide, as he explained after the race that drifting with F1 cars was not possible.
Still, it was clear that Verstappen was having fun with his RB-20, as he also told his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, to watch his onboard to see the power slide.
"Yes! I told GP: 'GP, look at the onboard!' F1 cars aren't made out for drifting.. now if it was a rally car, i could've really drifted it! But, we were far ahead, so having a bit of fun is okay."
According to Verstappen, having such a large gap to his rivals allowed him to also have fun with the car, but it would be really interesting to see the reaction of the
Red Bull garage if the car with number 1 ended in the barriers.
Luckily for everyone involved, that didn't happen and probably wouldn't happen, given the Dutch driver's incredible control over the car that he's driving.
