Max Verstappen highlighted the significance of the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend for the Red Bull Racing team.
The triple World Champion with Red Bull will compete in the 13th round of the 2024 season in Budapest after two consecutive races without victory—something that has not happened since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix.
Such was the dominance of the 26-year-old with the team from Milton Keynes. However, that has recently changed, and it seems Red Bull no longer has the fastest car.
After being outperformed in Austria and Great Britain, Red Bull comes to Hungary with hopes of getting back on top of the podium with the biggest upgrade of the season so far. Verstappen told the media at Hungaroring.
"We brought stuff [earlier this year] but they were not particularly big, I would say. This one is a bit bigger than what we have brought already. So I think for everyone, this is an important, important weekend."
The Austrian team introduced several upgrade packages throughout the season, the latest one during the previous race at Silverstone.
This upgrade in Great Britain didn't really help Red Bull catch up with McLaren, and what is even worse for them is that Mercedes seemed faster as well.
In other words, the team might be in big trouble if the Hungarian Grand Prix upgrade does not bring Red Bull closer to the front. Asked if this is a crucial point in the season for his team, Verstappen responded:
"You could say that. I think so, if this is not giving us some good lap time... I don't know how the rest of the season is going to evolve."
"But at the same time, I also don't know what's coming from the other teams. So we just focus on ourselves. We are bringing quite some things to the car, and of course, I hope that it will give us a bit of lap time."
