The 2024 Formula 1 season is still a month away, but the triple World Champion
Max Verstappen already won his first race in 2024.
With only 40 days to go until the first race of the season, all the F1 drivers are already physically preparing themselves and working with their teams to ensure the best start.
However, none of the 20 drivers prepared for the season 2024 like Max Verstappen did. The Dutchman participated in the virtual 24 Hours of Daytona, and with his team, Redline, the 26-year-old secured a class victory.
Verstappen had two teammates, Gianni Vecchio and Ole Steinbraten. The three drivers won the GTD class with Mercedes-AMG GT3, while Williams Esports, in the #6 Acura ARX-06 GTP car, took the overall win.
The chances for a win did not look too good after the qualifying when Verstappen's team qualified in ninth place in their category. Twenty-four hours was enough time for the Dutchman and his two teammates to climb up the order.
The way the Redline team was able to get back to the front was by close collaboration with their sister car, Redline #70 (Gustavo Ariel, Alexey Nesov, Josh Thompson, and Florian Lebigre).
The two cars drove close to each other for the majority of the race, giving each other slipstream, which helped them save fuel while maintaining a strong pace.
Verstappen was the third driver to take the steering wheel of the Mercedes as he went on the track on Saturday evening. Two Redline cars got to the front of the pack during the night hours.
Verstappen also had an unlucky moment during the race when a contact with different driver made him spin. Fortunately,
the 26-year-old and his squad managed to recover and snatch the class win.
Can Verstappen continue his winning streak as soon as the lights go out during the first race of the upcoming Formula One season in Bahrain?
