Max Verstappen responded to Zak Brown, who suggested during the 2024 season that his driving wasn't appropriate.
Red Bull Racing F1 driver Max Verstappen won the 2024 Drivers' Championship title despite not having the fastest car since the sixth round of the 2024 season in Miami.
It is generally agreed that McLaren had the fastest car for most of 2024. Although they won the Constructors' Championship, the British team with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri failed to secure the Drivers' Championship.
While Norris said there was no way Verstappen would have won the title if the positions were reversed, the Dutchman confidently stated that he would. To stir things up, he added that he would have done it even sooner in McLaren.
In the post-season interview with ViaPlay, Max Verstappen suggested that the Papaya team was not prepared for the Drivers' Championship battle.
"They've had a very good car this year. But I think it's also clear that they still had a lot to learn, so to speak, to really constantly compete."
"Of course, they did well for the constructors' championship, but they could have prepared much better for the drivers' championship."
There were many controversial moments between Verstappen and his biggest rival - Norris from McLaren, throughout the season.
After one of these in Mexico City, the CEO of McLaren, Zak Brown, stated that he didn't think it was necessary to drive like that (over the limits) for a world champion like the 27-year-old.
The four-time world champion responded to this comment and all the criticism that he received from various pundits, experts, and former F1 drivers throughout 2024.
"Yes, but they don't have the world champion mentality. I will always go to the limit to get the most out of every race and if I have to force it, then that's just how it goes. Sometimes you have to cross a line. Well, I do."
When asked if he ever regrets his on-track actions that might have been over the line, such as the incident with Norris in Mexico City, Max Verstappen responded:
"No, not at all in that race. I think I won points there. So, like I said, I will always do everything to get the maximum result for a championship."
"And, of course, sometimes you have to go to the limit or over the limit, and not everyone understands that. Not everyone has that mentality."
